Writing Letters to Your Members of Congress

One of the most effective and simplest forms of advocating for the Younger Americans Act is writing letters to your Members of Congress. Letter writing enables you to express your thoughts in a clear, orderly and persuasive manner. Members of Congress pay attention when their constituents take the time to write and are passionate about an issue.  Write your Senators and Representative and urge them to support and co-sponsor the Younger Americans Act!

  Quick Tips for Letter Writing:

Identify yourself and clearly state the purpose of your letter in the first paragraph.

Give information about you and the youth programs you participate in. Talk about your personal experiences.

Provide reasons why you support the Younger Americans Act.  Include information about how the bill will assist young people in your state and community. Be sure to include information connecting your own experiences to your support for the Younger Americans Act.

Ask for your Member of Congress’ view on the Younger Americans Act.

End the letter by thanking your Representative or Senator for their consideration of your views. Express willingness to answer any questions or respond to any concerns they might have.

Limit the letter to one page.
